Words and their pictures
Words come with their picture, and a picture is replaced in one click.
Add words
- Top bar“Add a word…”, in the top bar, suggests words from the lexicon. Enter adds the word to the resource.
- Top bar“Add several words” pastes a whole list, one word per line or separated by commas.
- Left column“Start from a theme…” fills an empty resource with a ready list: the farm, autumn, feelings.
- Left column“Start from criteria…” picks words by their graphemes, their syllables or their letters.
- A word missing from the lexicon, such as a first name, is typed and confirmed. Lexikit creates its card, to illustrate with your picture.
Changing a picture
- A click on a word, in the left column or in the preview, opens its window.
- The word window offers its other pictures, a photo from Wikimedia Commons or a picture from your computer.
- Window“In this resource” chooses the picture for this resource only. The star in “Pictures” chooses it for all resources.
- The pictograms come from ARASAAC, a library of more than 13,000 symbols.
The word window
- Window“Syllables” shows how the word splits, as it is said. “Edit” corrects it or colours the syllables.
- Window“Letters in colour” colours the chosen letters, such as the sound being studied or a silent letter.
- Window“Grammar” gives the word's part of speech, gender and plural. Lexikit fills them in, and you correct them.
- Window“Semantics” gives the word's opposite, synonyms and word family.
The lexicon
- Top bar“Lexicon”, in the top bar, gathers all the words: the ARASAAC pictograms and your own.
- Words are found by category, with the filters or by typing # and the name of the category.
- A changed word keeps your changes. The rest follows the lexicon and its new pictures.
- Window“Go back to the lexicon’s word”, in the word window, erases your changes.
Theme, category, part of speech
- A theme is a ready list around a class situation: the canteen, autumn, the farm.
- A category says what the thing is: an animal, a fruit, a vehicle. It has the same colour in every resource.
- The part of speech says whether the word is a noun, a verb or an adjective. It gives the colour of the cards.
