16,000 words and their pictures
The built-in lexicon of Lexikit gathers 16,000 words and 14,000 ARASAAC pictograms, ready to use.
Lexikit now has its own lexicon: 16,000 words and 14,000 pictograms from ARASAAC. When you type a word, its picture appears.
Why ARASAAC
ARASAAC is a centre for augmentative and alternative communication. Its pictograms, drawn by Sergio Palao, serve first of all people who communicate with pictures. They are made to be understood without ambiguity: a clean line, bold colours, a single object per picture, and the same style for thousands of words. They are released under a Creative Commons licence for non-commercial use, the framework in which Lexikit uses them.
Why a pictogram
A photo shows one particular dog. A pictogram shows “a dog”, without the details. To learn a word, this simplicity is an advantage: the child sees what the picture means, and the same style from one word to the next avoids distractions. You can also add your own pictures to a word, a photo of the class for example, or create your own words.
