Themes that make sentences
In the themes, every verb finds the words that make a sentence with it, and the ready sentences are laid with the cards of the factory.
In “Start from a theme…”, every verb of a theme now has, in the same theme, the words that make a sentence with it. On the farm, “plough” has “field”, “graze” has “grass”, “pick up” has “egg” and “basket”. A theme holds up to 30 words, against 28 before.
A verb and its words
I read the 63 situation themes again, verb by verb. A verb must find a subject or a complement among the words of the theme, for a sentence that is true of the situation. When the word was missing, I added it. When the verb stayed alone, I took it out: “fly” leaves the dinosaurs, as no word of the theme flies. This is a choice of Lexikit, so that the words of a theme are there to talk.
The eight themes of notions keep their words: colours, shapes, patterns, solids, numbers, the alphabet, space and time.
Sentences made with the cards
The six ready sentences of each theme are laid whole with the cards of “The sentence factory” made from its words. “The farmer ploughs the field.” needs the cards “the”, “farmer”, “ploughs” and “field”, and the factory of the farm gives them all. One sentence says “yesterday” with the past, another “tomorrow” with the going to future.
“Copy the sentence” and “Sentence models to glue” follow the same rule. Added to a file, they only offer the sentences whose cards the factory of the file has. The child builds the sentence with the cards, then copies it.
New cards in the factory
Some sentences need words the factory did not have. The set “To be and to have” gives “is” and “has”, in the chosen form. The little words gain “of”, “to” and “at”. “The baby is sad” can now be laid with the cards.
Pictures for the missing words
Four French words had no card: “galette”, “traîneau”, “loyer” and “préfecture”. I had their pictures made with an image generation tool, in the style of the ARASAAC pictograms: a thick black outline, flat colours, a white background. The English lexicon gains “sleigh” and the picture of “rent” is kept. “gouter” also shows a child tasting, and “fève” the figurine in a slice of galette.
The lists in English, Spanish and German follow the same changes, with the words of their lexicon. Resources already made keep their words. If a verb still seems alone in a theme, write it in “Contact”.
