Handwriting models to glue in the exercise book

The “Handwriting models” resource writes each word or sentence on a strip to glue in the exercise book, on the class's handwriting lines and at their true size.

In class, a model is often glued at the top of the page of the exercise book, and the child writes under it. This model helps if its lines fall exactly on those of the book. A tall letter that reaches the top line on the model must reach it on the page too. The “Handwriting models” resource now prints these models at the right size.

One strip per child

The words of the list are written on the chosen lines, at their true size. A strip takes the whole width of a portrait sheet, which is also the width of the exercise book. If the class list is filled in Settings › My groups, the model is printed once per child. Otherwise, Lexikit prints a page per model.

The dotted cut line runs through a blank, never on a line. Then you align the lines of the strip with those of the book. The “Page without cutting” layout writes the models on the continuous lines of a page, without dotted lines. The page is glued whole or cut by hand. For the measurements to be right, print the PDF at 100%, without “Fit to page”.

English handwriting lines

In English, the Ruling menu has the four handwriting lines used in English schools, at 7, 5, 4 or 3 mm. Small letters sit between the two middle lines, capitals and tall letters reach the top line, and tails reach the bottom line. A single line and blank paper are there too. The lines are thin, as on paper.

The model can be written in print, the handwriting children learn first, in capitals or in cursive. In English, print is a handwriting style as well as a reading one.

Sentences too

For sentences, the same resource writes each sentence on a strip, in cursive by default. A long sentence goes on to the next line, at the same size. One or two empty lines can be added under the model, for the child to start writing on the strip.
