Themes with verbs and adjectives

The themes of Lexikit now mix nouns, verbs and adjectives, because a vocabulary made only of nouns does not let you make sentences.

Reading the themes of Lexikit again alongside the curriculum, I counted about 80% nouns: apples, chairs, cows. With nouns alone, you cannot make a sentence.

What the curriculum says

The 2024 French curriculum asks that each network of words worked on in class mix verbs, nouns, adjectives, grammatical words and expressions. A child who knows “apple” but not “crunch”, “ripe” or “peel” can say little about the apple.

What changes

The themes receive verbs and adjectives. The kitchen gains “mix”, “pour”, “hot” and “clean”. The “Opposites” theme disappears. Opposites are not a theme but a relation between words, which is dealt with separately.

Why it is harder

Verbs and adjectives are harder to illustrate than an object. A picture of “run” shows someone running, but “soft” is hard to draw. The ARASAAC pictograms were designed for communication, and they also show actions and qualities. Each picture is still checked before it enters a theme.
