Sound grid: a picture touched says its name

A grid of pictures on the screen, with eight columns and six rows like a talking board. The teacher records their voice on each picture, without a device. The pupil touches a picture and hears the word, then the microphone opens: they say it again and compare their voice with the model. For a class with a talking board, the grid prints at the size of its boxes.

Sound grid of eight columns and six rows, one picture per box
First page, made in Lexikit with twelve animal words.

In 3 steps

  1. Add your words: type them, paste a list or start from a theme. They fill the boxes in their order.
  2. Place the pictures: click a box in the preview to choose its word, or drag it onto another box. A word can go in several boxes, and a box can stay empty.
  3. Record your voice: the “Record my voice…” button opens the grid and you say each word on its box. Then start the activity on the screen.

What you can set

  • “Rows and columns”: eight columns and six rows by default, on the screen. “Talking board”: 44 boxes the size of the device's boxes, to print, with the loudspeaker area to cut out
  • Written word under the picture, or the picture alone as on talking board grids
  • “Fill in order” puts the words back in their order, “Empty the grid” starts again from a blank grid
  • On the screen: the same grid, each picture in the same place. The picture touched says its word. With “Activity: Listen, say, compare”, the microphone then opens: the pupil says the word again and compares their voice with the model. A word is said with your voice once you have recorded it box by box, without a device, otherwise with Lexikit's voice

Ways to use it

  • Discover the words of a theme by listening to them
  • An independent workshop: the pupil listens, repeats and records
  • Hear and repeat words with pupils who are learning the language

Frequently asked questions

Does the grid line up with the boxes of the talking board?

With “Grid: Talking board”, the boxes are 28.25 mm wide and 30 mm high, as on blank talking board grids. Print at 100%, without “Fit to page”. Try one sheet on your board before printing the whole series, as models may vary.

Do I need a talking board?

No. The grid plays on the screen, on an interactive whiteboard or a tablet, with your voice recorded picture by picture. “Grid: Talking board” also prints it at the size of the device's boxes.

Are the pupils' voices kept?

No. The pupil's voice is only for comparing in the moment, then the next take replaces it and the end of the activity erases it. Nothing stays on the device and nothing leaves in an export.
