Independent mode, to play alone on screen

In full screen, one person plays alone on a tablet or a computer, with their first name, a level, two tries and a hint.

Until now, the on-screen activities were played together, led by an adult. Independent mode turns them into individual exercises, on a tablet at the back of the classroom or on a computer at home.

How it plays

Each person taps their first name, picks a level from one to three stars and answers alone. A question gives two tries and a hint.

What is kept, and where

The results stay on the device: the latest successes in each activity and the words to work on again. There is no account, and no data is sent. This choice dates from the start of Lexikit, because children's first names and their mistakes do not belong on a server.

Why two tries

A mistake followed by a second chance lets the person look again and correct it. A mistake penalised straight away mostly risks discouraging them. The hint shows the answer when it is time to move on to the next question.
