More verbs and adjectives in the themes

Lexikit's themes mix more verbs, adjectives and a few expressions with their nouns, so that children can say sentences.

In “Start from a theme…”, each theme keeps its basic nouns and now has more verbs, more adjectives and sometimes an expression. Across the 71 themes, nouns go from 69% to 54% of the words. Verbs go from 17% to 24%, adjectives from 11% to 16%, grammatical words and expressions from 3% to 6%.

Why rebalance

The French nursery school curriculum asks that every word network be “made of verbs, nouns, adjectives, grammatical words and expressions” (BO no. 41 of 31 October 2024). On 3 October 2026, each theme had received at least three verbs and two adjectives. Nouns were still more than two words out of three.

What comes into the themes

A theme gets the actions and qualities of its situation. The dining hall gains “serve”, “full”, “empty” and “delicious”. Bedtime gains “yawn”, “snore” and “turn off the light”. Expressions stay few and close to the situation, such as “enjoy your meal!” in the dining hall, “it's my turn” in the playground or “trick or treat” at Halloween. Grammatical words go where they are used: “above”, “below” and “in” in the PE hall, “inside” and “outside” in the house.

What leaves

To keep lists of 28 words at most, the least central nouns leave, or those already in a neighbouring theme: the party blower, the goose, the hot-air balloon, the claves. The notions keep their words. Colours, shapes, numbers, the alphabet and space hardly change. Since 21 October 2026, a theme holds up to 30 words (Themes that make sentences).

Choosing the pictures

A verb is harder to draw than an object. I looked at every picture of each added word and chose the most obvious one. Several words were set aside because none of their pictures fits. In French, the picture of “goûter” (to taste) shows afternoon snack time and not tasting. Since 21 October 2026, “goûter” has a picture of a child tasting. The picture of “vieux” (old) shows a car, and the one of “collant” (sticky) shows a pair of tights. The English and Spanish lists follow the same changes with the words of their own lexicon.

Resources you have already made keep their words. To use the new lists, start from a theme in a new resource. If a word seems out of place or a picture misleading, report it in “Your feedback”.
