Sorting boxes
A single resource is used to sort words into boxes to cut out, by category, by part of speech, by number of syllables or by first letter.
“Sort by category” and “Sort by part of speech” become a single resource, the sorting boxes. The “Sort by” setting chooses the criterion: the category, the part of speech, the number of syllables or the first letter. Sorting by syllables and by first letter therefore now exists on paper.
Materials to laminate
The sorting boxes are cut out and handled. They have no name and no instruction at the top of the page. Lexikit prints one large box per page, then the labels of the words to sort. The “Print” button gives, as you choose, the boxes and the labels, the boxes only or the labels only.
Every box your words make
The number of boxes is no longer chosen. Every box your words form goes on the sheet, and a word in two categories goes in both. In the left column, the eye icon of a box removes it from the resource or puts it back.
Sorting to think about meaning
Putting “pomme” (apple) with “poire” (pear) and not with “pomme de pin” (pine cone) means thinking about the meaning of the word. The French preschool curriculum suggests sorting by category to organise vocabulary. The same sort also plays on screen, by sliding the pictures into their columns.
