The assessment grid

The assessment grid shows the pictures of the words worked on, each with its boxes, ready to fill in.

The assessment grid shows the pictures of the words worked on, with boxes to note what is named, recognised or to review.

The words of the sequence, with nothing to type again

The grid fills itself with the same list of words as the games. The words played at bingo on Monday are the ones assessed on Friday, with the same pictures.

Recognising, then naming

The grid separates two things that are often confused. Recognising a word means pointing to the right picture when you hear it. Naming means finding the word yourself in front of the picture. A child recognises many more words than they say. The Eduscol guide on preschool vocabulary (2020) recalls it: “The vocabulary a pupil has is much richer in reception than in production” (page 30, translated from French). The grid shows where each child is and which words to go over again.
